SERVICE AS ACTION AT LAS

As a whole school initiative, we engage students, faculty and staff in meaningful service to the community. Our parent organization, the Madras Seva Sadan, was founded as Home for grown - up girls and young women who were poor and destitute, such as deserted wives, helpless widows and orphans, with a view to impart to them such education and training as would make them fit, in course of time, to look after themselves, and be thoroughly self - supporting and self - reliant.

Service as Action encourages everyone to actively contribute towards the well - being of others, build connections, and develop a sense of responsibility towards the communitgay.

Global Youth Action Fund

With the Global Youth Action Fund (GYAF), IB is proud to award micro-grants to support young people’s innovative ideas and projects addressing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. This year a group of Lady Andal School students, Shankrith, Raunak, Dhriti, Gayantika and Padmasri have been awarded a grant to continue their sustained effort to reduce starvation. ‘Rescued Bites’ is a project envisioned by the students. Hunger is a never-ending issue in the community so they created a project that focused on bringing change by placing food in the Ayyamittu Unn.

Each one ‘read’ one

A project under construction to help share and transfer knowledge among students of our school and the government aided school of the Madras Seva Sadan. Here the students are encouraged to read aloud books in a language that is understood by the listener.

Beach Clean - Up drive

As part of the Service as Action project, every year, the students collaborate with an NGO for the annual Marina beach clean-up drive, where they display their Learner Profile attributes. They encourage participation from all stakeholders. Their collective efforts not only brightened the shoreline but also exemplified their commitment to environmental stewardship.

Share your Hygge

Children built an understanding of the concept of Hygge through videos, class discussions and articles. The ‘Share your Hygge’ campaign was an epiphany, a Eureka moment, that transpired into action. The students divided themselves into pairs and went to various classes and urged the student community to generously donate for the cause. Children were consistent in their collection of the contributions where they reminded their peers about the campaign. Along with preloved clothes and toys, children also made handmade Diwali greeting cards and placed them in Ayyamittu Unn to spread the joy of the festivities.
