Learning Profile

The Learner Profile is a set of attributes and values that we encourage our children to adopt. We strive to develop global citizens who respect cultures, who accept diversity around them, and who endeavour to inspire, empower and transform for a better world. Our curriculum is designed to prepare students for life in today's world and as such transferable skills and strong character attributes are given as much prominence as specific subject knowledge and academic challenge.

At Lady Andal School, we are committed to fostering the development of the IB Learner Profile attributes in every member of our community. As part of our Unit planning, we focus on the Learner Profile, incorporating these key qualities into everyday class engagements. Our teaching community use a variety of resources to help students explore and embody these attributes.

The Resource Centre has books and materials that showcases and indulges the learners to embrace these traits. We celebrate Learner Profile Attributes month, focussing on any of the 10 traits, for our students to delve deeper into the true essence of these attributes.

We view the students’ growth in cognizance with these attributes as not only essential for their academic success but also for their personal development, both inside and outside the school.

We develop curiosity and independence in learning through personal research and questioning. We actively enjoy learning and this love of learning will be sustained throughout our lives.

We explore concepts, ideas and issues that have local and global significance. We develop understanding across a broad and balanced range of disciplines and actively seek knowledge independently.

We develop critical and creative thinking skills to pose and approach complex problems, and make reasoned, ethical decisions.

We develop confidence in different modes of communication and value second language acquisition. We work effectively and willingly in collaboration with others.

We act with integrity, honesty and a strong sense of social justice and respect for the dignity of all groups and communities. We take responsibility for our own actions and consequences.

We understand and appreciate cultures and histories, and are open to other perspectives, values and traditions. We seek and evaluate other points of view and grow from each personal experience.

We show empathy, respect and compassion towards the needs and feelings of others with a personal commitment to service. We always act to make a positive difference in the lives of others and to the environment.

We approach unfamiliar situations with courage and have the independence of spirit to explore new leadership roles, ideas and strategies. We are resourceful and resilient in the face of challenges and change.

We understand the importance of intellectual, physical, social and emotional balance to achieve personal well-being for themselves and others.

We give thoughtful consideration to our own learning and experiences. We work to understand our strengths and weaknesses in order to support our learning and personal development.
